Sam Houston

Documenting an Epic Life

A Documentary

Vision, Principles, Leadership

Shortly after crossing the Red River into the patchwork of settlements known as Texas, Sam Houston pronounced it “the finest portion of the globe ever to have blessed my vision.”  Instead of a chaotic land of unrest he saw a landscape capable of holding “ten millions of souls” and declared to Andrew Jackson that he would never forget the country of his birth but would make Texas his new home.

The State of Texas and the American Southwest would be very different today without Sam Houston's pivotal role in their History.

• He is the only person to have been the governor of two states.

• He was widely considered to be in line for the Presidency of the United States.

• He predicted the Civil War, and its outcome, as early as 1854.

• He lived with the Indians for six years and was an aggressive advocate for their rights.

• He led a rag-tag army to victory over an army of thousands of disciplined Mexican troops.

• He was a Southern politician who was staunchly pro-Union.

• He influenced every important piece of legislation during his thirteen years in the Senate.

• He twice walked away from power rather than compromise his principles.

There has never been a documentary dedicated solely to the life of Sam Houston.
